Hickory Displays Versatility with Windriver Pool Project

Anyone familiar with Hickory Construction’s project résumé knows that we have built our reputation on a long history of residential and commercial projects. However, our recent work on the pool area at the WindRiver residential community in Loudon County shows that even within the commercial sector, we are capable of coming through on a wide variety of jobs.

“The pool had already been installed by another contractor, but we coordinated with them in the process of building an outdoor bar and bathhouse from the ground up,” explains Project Manager Jim Galbraith. “Hickory also installed 10,000 square feet of concrete and stone decking as well as several pergola arches and a lot of smaller details. It’s a really nice area for the homeowners.”

The 3,000-square-foot, 90,000-gallon pool – the focal point of the area – features a large zero-entrance swimming area that slopes down to four wide swimming lanes in an adjacent perpendicular section. A smaller pool on a lower level and a separate heated spa are located nearby.

The bar structure offers shaded outdoor seating at the main window, while the interior houses equipment for food and beverage service. The brick and shake-shingle bathhouse has separate men’s and women’s entrances and is accented by lush greenery growing on outdoor trellis walls.

Other features include semi-shaded stairs leading from the street to pool level, two stone-lined creeks, a fire pit and a curved boulder wall with pergola shading that creates a cozy outdoor seating group.

Abundant landscaping adds oases of colorful accents throughout the open and sprawling setting.

The project, which was designed in collaboration between Jonathan Miller Architects and Hedstrom Design, LLC, took six months to complete.
