Tough Building Terrain Requires Expertise

A mountain home in East Tennessee can offer some of the most spectacular views in the country. It takes planning, skill and no shortage of expertise to build a mountain home on challenging terrain while maintaining the integrity of the site.

Careful planning and preparation is essential before the first shovel digs into the soil on mountain sites. Rather than moving the mountain, Hickory works to limit the impact excavation can have on the property while preserving as much of the valuable vegetation as possible.

For example, prior to the construction of new guest cottages on a five-star resort in Walland, Tennessee, Hickory painstakingly wrapped all trees close to the construction area to protect them from scarring in movement of large construction materials. The trees are an integral part of the property’s appeal and needed to be left undisturbed.

Material delivery and staging are key considerations of mountain construction. Often full loads cannot be delivered to mountain job sites. Hickory often will unload materials at the bottom of the mountain and transport them to the job site in small quantities. This is particularly important when it is in the best overall interest of the project and site preservation. We also limit the use of large equipment on mountain sites and utilize smaller vehicles to transport materials in and out of the construction zones.

Having a keen eye on tough terrain also ensures initial estimates are accurate without the worry of added costs from details overlooked on the front end. Challenging construction sites are an area in which Hickory has a high level of expertise from professionals who have ample experience and the creative flexibility to ensure the integrity of these valuable building sites.
